Winter Storm to Hit South Lake Tahoe. A atmospheric river that is drawing moisture from the topics is expected to drop several feet of snow in the Sierra Nevada’s and South Lake Tahoe through the weekend, starting March 5, 2016. A winter storm watch is in full effect as of today, March 5, 2016 at 12:17pm.
The strong winter storm will start off tonight (Saturday) with snow levels at 7,000 during the late afternoon then dropping to lake level by early evening. This first round of snow could drop as much as 3 feet of fresh snow to the area.
A heavy band of moisture moving in on Sunday morning will produce snow at levels as low as 5,000 feet, bringing another foot or so of powder to lake level. The snow fall will continue through Monday and will likely impact travel over the mountain passes.
